Today, we take the concept of the website for granted. Particularly for younger generations, the idea that nearly every company and organization on Earth has its own virtual home, store, or market, is considered as natural as the fact that birds have wings.

Even individuals who, well, do things have their ownwebsite. Basically any comedian, actor, singer or general public figure who doesn’t have their own website is like a person without a face, lurking in the shadows of anonymity.

Sounds a little spooky if you really think about it.

Like nearly all things in the real world, websites have evolved over time, from a one dimensional static image that basically says “Hey, we exist and have a face” to animated and interactive places. These days, exploring a website can feel like watching a short film, with aerial views of cities, mountains and even outer space in constant motion, along with paragraphs that morph into images and so on.

Perhaps one of the more interesting topics of the world of websites is how they will look 5, 10, 50, even 100 years from now, if they even exist by then or go the way of the dodo bird, into the realm of extinction.

From a single image to an entire world

As mentioned above, websites aren’t the digital book covers they used to be, and one can find all the movement either entertaining or dizzying. Either way, we probably ain’t seen nothing yet. What we’re witnessing today may be regarded as rather boring compared to what’s to come. With AI catapulting human creativity to the point where it’s not human anymore, we may see things that make today’s online platforms look like hieroglyphics on cave walls.

We may find ourselves in a world where instead of clicking on a link and seeing a web portal through a cell phone or computer screen, we’re completely immersed in another world, like virtual reality without the need for goggles or anything.

We may just find ourselves floating through virtual tunnels, then clicking on another link with the palms of our hands, like a door leading us to an entirely new and otherworldly platform. We (or AI) may one day develop a “website” where we actually find ourselves inside the platform, trying on clothing in a completely fictional realm, then giving a thumbs up to complete the purchase to have it shipped to our home in the real world.

Going even deeper, we may one day go from being website visitors to inhabitants of cloud-based colonies. Instead of browsing the Amazon platform, some of us may decide to move to Amazon world, where life consists of an endless virtual shopping spree in a virtual shopping mall (at least for those who can afford it).

News sites could grow into news places. Instead of clicking on BBC.com to see what’s going on in the world, you’ll go into the BBC’s virtual universe, floating around from newsroom to newsroom, but instead of seeing the reporters and journalists at their desks, you actually go into newsland, where you’re a part of the current events you choose to witness instead of just read or see.

You’ll be able to fly over a rainforest as it’s being deforested, or hover over a tragic warzone or, on a more positive note, attend the next Emmy Awards without any of your favorite entertainers having a clue that you’re there, in front of them.

Perhaps some of these ideas are far-fetched, perhaps not. Again, considering how AI has the increasing capacity to significantly outpace our own organic intelligence and creativity, all bets are off for how things may turn out.

The present is also interesting

So far, the closest thing we have to the fascinating hypothetical scenarios mentioned above is virtual reality. For the time being, websites are still confined to a device, either your PC or smart phone, and we still don’t have the option of literally moving into the cloud.  But we do have the ability to create some highly alluring websites, either by hiring a team of experts or going at it on our own, or with the help of AI tools.

Stratik has been creating and optimizing websites for well over a decade, and if you’re interested in improving your virtual sphere, or creating an entirely new one, you can contact us at info@stratik.us and set up an appointment to speak to one of our experts.

Since artificial intelligence has practically become unavoidable in nearly all aspects of business, we’ve teamed up with Webydo, a professional no-code web design platform that enables designers to create custom, responsive websites visually, without needing to write manual code, while providing a robust design environment similar to professional tools like Adobe Photoshop, but which outputs fully functional HTML/CSS websites. Trusted by over 26,000 designers worldwide.

For those interested in going the extra mile, we’re offering new Webydo subscribers (through our affiliate link) a complimentary UX audit, a systematic evaluation of your website to identify usability issues and areas for improvement that may hinder user experience and business goals.

Neither Stratik nor Webydo may have the ability to allow users to literally move in to your new website, but we can certainly get your digital presence well ahead of the back in today’s digital world, regardless of how quirky the future may be.
